SL Mining License CANCELLED

Breaking News: Sierra Leone has cancelled the mining license of the iron ore miner, SL Mining. Mines minister Foday Rado Yokie told me it’s due to the company’s “noncompliance with their mining agreement”. It follows a long drawn-out and sometimes acrimonious disagreeing between the two over allegations of breaches of the country’s laws and agreement thereby shortchanging the state. The company has denied all the allegations and says it’s shocked and surprised by the decision. The termination of SL Mining’s contract comes months after the termination of the license of the Chinese-owned iron ore miner, Shandong.
