The women’s leader of aggrieved landowners in Sahn Malen in Pujehun District, Hannah Deen, was bundled out of her house at 11pm last night, according to her granddaughter. It follows the detention of the leader of the group and local MP Siaka Sama. Sounding terrified, she said they’d been living in constant fear since the weekend, following skirmishes between locals and the security forces which left two shot dead. Police in Pujehun have denied detaining her. Police spokesman, Supt Brima Kamara said they brought her in for questioning and put her on bail. It’s not clear whether she’s been released. Meanwhile 15 civil society activists and human rights defenders say police blocked them today as they attempted to visit Sahn Malen. Police say the activists needed a clearance from the Southern Command because of “the prevailing situation on the ground”.
