A magistrate in eastern #SierraLeone has issued a warrant for the arrest of presidential candidate Mohamed Kamaraimba Mansaray for failing to appear before him today. He is facing allegations of illegal possession of firearms which he strenuously denies saying what he had was a taser which he was authorised to carry. Speaking to me from northern Sierra Leone, he said he’d been ordered to be detained until Wednesday and brought before the court in Segbwema – the same day he’s due to be nominated for president at the electoral commission in Freetown.
His lawyer, Hindolo Ngevao says neither he nor his client was informed by the magistrate or any other court official about the adjourned date of today, contrary to what he said he’d been assured in person would happen. He said that at the last sitting they made an appeal that Kamaraimba was due in the US for a fundraising event which was granted, with the assurance that on his return a new date would be scheduled by the court and duly communicated to them which never happened.
