The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) viewed with extreme pleasure and delight about the September 12, 2019 meeting held between President Bio and Former President Ernest Bai Koroma at State House.
The NDA believes that open dialogue, consultations, mutual respect and inclusion are the valued tenets of good governance and the preservation of the rule of democracy. When leaders of respective political persuasions demonstrate willingness to sit down and talk; not only is democracy enhanced and preserved, but national cohesion and unity becomes preverlent and visible.
A nation at war with itself cannot sustain and political leaders are servants of the people not perpetual enemies of opposing factions. The NDA therefore commend both President Bio and former President Koroma for using the avenue of dialouge and communication to strengthen peace and promote a culture of national cohesion.
We call on all political leaders to show such character of patriotism and statesmanship by putting the interest of Sierra Leone above everything and working with the government to achieve the common aspirations of the people.
We call on President Bio to release all political prisoners, organize and hold a summit on political peace building and restrain the Police force including appointed government officers from future election interference.
We call on opposition party groups to respect the rule of law and the continuous peace building process that has existed since the end of our Civil war in 2002.
The NDA continues to be a strong and viable partner for peace and a champion of democracy in Sierra Leone. The NDA will participate with every governmental and nongovernmental organization to ensure that the security and progress of our nation are maintained and protected.
God Bless Sierra Leone
