We were delighted to have Mary Neil & Winfred Ade-Williams, representing Irish Aid & UNOPS respectively, inspect six of the sites in our Disaster Risk Resilience Project!

With funding from Irish Aid & technical support from UNOPS, FCC has been able to rehabilitate drainage systems, construct footbridges and stabilize slopes in communities that are prone to disasters (flooding and landslides).

The project has also covered;
1. Drainage rehabilitation work at Kola Tree Aberdeen Ferry Road
2. Slope stabilisation work at Syke Street
3. Footbridge construction at Jalloh Terrace

In Cold Water community, for instance, a sand bank wall has replaced a dangerous wooden cross bridge that served over 15,000 residents in Cold Water, Moeba and surrounding communities.

The visits to the various communities were an all-round success as members of the communities had the opportunity to thank Irish Aid for funding FCC’s interventions whilst Irish Aid was able to approve of the quality of work done and see the communities benefit from the project. It was with great excitement that Mary Neil pointed out school-going children using the newly constructed bridge at Jalloh Terrace, a huge upgrade from the wooden footbridge that was there previously.

Geological and hydrological studies are being completed for the major drainage works at Shell Old Road and work will start soon.
