The Ministry of Health and Sanitation through the Health Education Division has today Wednesday 15th May engaged and orientated District Deputy Directors of Education, Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools and Teachers Union on the upcoming Nationwide Integrated Measles Rubella vaccination campaign at the Atlantic Lumley Hotel in Freetown.
The purpose of the engagement was to orientate Education Authorities on the upcoming Nationwide Measles Rubella vaccination campaign slated for Monday 10th- Sunday 16th June this year.
There was a presentation on the Overview of the Measles Rubella Vaccination Campaign from the Child Health & Expanded Programme on Immunization, stating the key interventions, definition of Measles & Rubella, primary/key beneficiaries, immunization trend/coverage per District for certain vaccines in 2018 and more.

Supplement/Capsule and Albendazole to children 6-59 months and children
12-59 months respectively.
vitamin A Supplement and Albendazole are 2 of 5 interventions embedded in the upcoming Measles Rubella Vaccination Campaign, however, the Health Ministry is administering the 2 interventions in the following 7 districts: Bonthe, Moyamba, Bombali, Kambia, Portloko, Western Area Urban & Western Area Rural
Also, the Health Education Division Presented their preparedness for the campaign on the area of Social Mobilization and Public Education or Awareness Raising in which the Division urged schools authorities to fully support the campaign not only on awareness raising but also on the are of monitoring etc. as bulk of the campaign’s target beneficiaries are school going pupils.
Schools Authorities committed to support the campaign through radio discussion programmes and using their education entering points/organizations or bodies to cascade/disseminate the campaign messages to their colleagues.
There was also a motivational statement from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, emphasizing the importance/role of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in the Measles Rubella Vaccination Campaign.
