Finance Minister Attends COMCEC Meetings In Turkey


The 34th Session of the Standing for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organanization of Islamic Conference (COMCEC) was formally opened yesterday by the President of Turkey, His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Chairman of COMCEC.
Leading the Sierra Leone delegation to 4-day engagement is the dynamic Minister of Finance, Hon Jacob Jusu Saffa. Other members of the delegation include the Financial Secretary, Mr Sahr Lahai Jusu, who also doubles as the the COMCEC National Focal Person, the Director in the Development Assistance Coordination Office, Mr Kawusu Kebbay and the Chargé d’Affaires, Embassy of Sierra Leone in Riyadh, Mr Sulay-Manah Kpukumu.
Established in 1984 to promote and strengthen economic and commercial cooperation among the OIC member states, COMCEC’s membership includes all 57 OIC Member States. Its headquarters is in Ankara, Turkey and meets annually in November in Istanbul.
Its major priorities include:
(a) assisting OIC Member States to tackle economic challenges , particularly in assisting needy Member States in their poverty alleviation efforts;
(b) serving as a platform for policy dialogue and knowledge exchange through experience sharing, good practices aimed at enhancing trade, agriculture, tourism and transport infrastructure among others.
The Minister will address the forum this afternoon. Meanwhile, the Minister has been holding bilateral meetings with the Turkish EXIM Bank, ÇAGLA Group Elektrik in Istanbul.
