Expeditious Trial To De-congest 3 Prisons In The Provinces. Chief Justice Approves!

Overcrowding at various correctional centers in the country is one of the biggest problems inherited by the Hon. Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Desmond Babatunda Edwards. His recent visit to the Male Correctional Centre (Pademba Road Prison) prompted the reactivation of the UNDP funded Prison Court and saw the released of several inmates without indictments including the longest servicing inmates (11 years) through habeas corpus (a writ that institutes a court proceeding to determine whether a criminal defendant has been lawfully imprisoned, or to test the constitutionality of a conviction; also used in cases of child custody and deportation.) applications filed by counsels of the Legal Aid Board.
