ECOWAS Court Lacks Competence And Jurisdiction Says Attorney-General

SierraLeone’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice has dismissed the ruling by the ECOWAS Court that the sacking in 2015 of the country’s Vice President Samuel Sam-Sumana was illegal. Joseph Kamara told me that they’d have nothing to do with the ruling, insisting that the president acted in accordance with the constitution. Among other things the Abuja-based court ordered that the sacked VP be paid his salary and emoluments dating back to when he was removed from Office. Kamara says Sam-Sumana should follow up on his pay and emoluments which he said were his entitlement under the laws of Sierra Leone, but that the regional court lacked the jurisdiction to arbitrate in the matter when the country’s highest court had already done so. ~Umaru Fofana~
