Hon Minister of Health and Sanitation Dr Alpha T Wurie makes his first official visit to 4 Government Hospital facilities in the Western Area
The Hon Minister of Health and Sanitation on Tuesday 12th June, 2018 made his first official visit to key government hospitals in the western area including the Mental Hospital.
Since his appointment into office as Minister of Health and Sanitation the Minister have engaged his internal professionals and administrative heads to understand the issues and challenges in the Ministry and the Health sector as a whole. It’s is of no doubt that the health indicators in the country are nothing to write home about. It’s in correcting this wrong that HE Bio appointed the result oriented Minister Dr Wurie to turn around things in the Health Sector as he did in the Education sector about 15yrs ago.
The main purpose of his visit was to understand the state of the facilities and assessed their quality for an effective service delivery. At the Connaught hospital , he interacted with patients to further understand their satisfaction of services rendered to them. He was particularly pleased with the level of equipments at the Connaught hospital and observed the need to train personnel to effectively and functionally use the equipments for better productivity. At the PCMH, he visited the Intensive care Unit and the laboratory. He had a frank discussion with staff of the Hospital to understand their needs for effective service delivery.
At the Ola During Children’s Hospital he was pleased with the enthusiasm of the personnel and encouraged them to work hard promising to provide the basic tools that will enhance their effectiveness.
The climax of the tour was at the Sierra Leone Mental Hospital. The Minister and his team visited the patients and facilities. He was pleased to see a clean environment and thanked the staff for their resilience in delivery service to mentally affected patients.
