Most of the southeast of Sierra Leone has been cut off from the country’s capital, Freetown after the collapse of a bridge in Gbaima Songa on the Bo highway. It followed a heavy downpour last night into this morning.

Hundreds of people from especially Bo and Kenema are already stranded on either side of the chasm.

The alternative route via Mongere and Matotoka is riddled with massive potholes and tiny and dangerous bridges and lasts almost double the time from Bo on a 4×4. Cargo trucks will find it almost impossible to ply.

The far eastern route via Kono District is no much better.
