Bishop J. Archibald Cole Speaks to Judges on the Flow of Justice

The Judiciary of Sierra Leone on the 22nd September, 2019 climaxed the judicial week with a short, precise and powerful sermon delivered to judges, magistrates, lawyers and well-wishers by presiding Bishop of the New Life Ministries International Church, His Grace the Bishop Jonathan Archibald Cole on the theme “Hate the Evil, and Love the Good, and establish Judgement in the Gate.” Amos 5:15 at the Cathedral Church George Street, Freetown.

Speaking to judges, magistrates and staff of the Judiciary of Sierra Leone, Bishop J. Archibald Cole said, the theme was taken from the book of Amos and the prophet Amos was not a commercial prophet but a social prophet who cares about effective and expeditious justice for all referenced Amos 4:1, 5:12 and 8:4. His Grace the Bishop notes that justice should not be a moving object but something that should flow.

Bishop Cole outlined the factors serving as hindrances to the flow of justice in most countries of which Sierra Leone is inclusive. He said tribalism, political interference and bribery and corruption are the key factors affecting the effective flow of justice in Sierra Leone.

It could be recalled that the Judiciary of Sierra Leone under the dynamic leadership of the Hon. Chief Justice, Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards commenced a week long activities marking the commencement of the 2019/2020 Judicial year. Besides the criminal and civil call overs, the leadership of the Judiciary for the first time instituted an open Prison Court in which one thousand inmates where given the opportunities to present their plights to the judges who in turn will update the Hon. Chief Justice for swiftly decision to be taken.
