AYV, STAR Announce Rival Reality TV Shows – Big Brother Salone

Two of Sierra Leone’s major television networks have both announced plans to host the first Sierra Leonean version of the ‘Big Brother’ reality show.

The President of the Africa Young Voices Media Empire, Ambassador Anthony Navo Jnr, told Radio Democracy 98.1 Good Morning Salone program on Friday that plans were well underway to produce the ‘Big Brother’ Salone show. Navo was speaking on the successes of the just
concluded ‘Big Sister’ reality TV show in which AYV partnered with Zainab Sheriff and the mobile company Africell.

10 house mates contested for the ‘Big Sister Salone’ show and Haja Kamara aka China Nicki emerged as the winner. She was given a Ten Million Leones cash prize and a brand new car.
Navo said his company was negotiating with a company in London to own the ‘Big Brother’ Salone Franchise. He said there were also plans to buy more equipments to make the show better.

However, Star TV said they were also making preparations to start airing their own version of the ‘Big Brother’ show. A very senior staff of the TV network, who is also one of the
Producers of the reality show said they were already airing the trailer for the show.

The producer, who begged to remain anonymous for now, said Star TV had been working on the ‘Big Brother’ reality show for over a year now. He said they have since sent sponsorship proposal letters to several companies but that it was only after the success of the ‘Big Sister’
show that the company decided to come onboard. “We have been getting lots of calls from our sponsors to start the show,” he said.

He confirmed that one of the major cell phone companies is expected to be among the major sponsors for the show. Responding to questions on whether people will see it as a copycat, the anonymous staff said: “Entertainment has no monopoly; everyone has the right to produce their own show.”

He said they will officially announce the date for their version of the show next week. Big Brother is a Dutch reality competition television franchise created by John de Mol Jr., broadcast in the Netherlands and subsequently syndicated internationally. As of 11 November 2017, there have been 387 seasons of Big Brother in over 54 franchise countries and regions.
