The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) has today, Tuesday, 19th March 2019 at the Ministry’s Conference room signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Zhonghui Tuifu International (ZTI) a Chinese Corn and Agro-Business processing Company.
In his opening statement, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr. Joseph Jonathan Ndanema noted that, due to the extensive discussions between the Ministry and the Investors, the Ministry is convinced with the motives of the project of the investors which surrounds the attainment of Food Self Sufficiency and Creation of Job Opportunities, “this project is in line with the dreams and aspirations of H.E President Bio and His New Direction Initiatives.” He disclosed.
The Minister continued that, after the signing of the MOU, they will again engage in sober brainstorming in order to dig deep and bring up new ideas that will compliment the New Direction Initiatives. He rained praises on the Ambassador of Sierra Leone to China, Ambassador Ernest M. Ndomahina who he says is the driving-force and pioneer of the MOU.
Making her own contribution, the Permanent Secretary of MAF, Mrs Fatmata Mustapha intimated that, after thorough discussions with the Investors she is pleased with their project for three main reasons which has to do with :
- Job Creation
- Skill Transfer and
- Crop Diversification.
She said the entire project is a win-win situation for both parties, adding that, “this project is key and inline with the New Direction Ideology which has prioritized Agriculture and is totally transforming the entire sector”. She eulogized.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sierra Leone to China, Ernest M. Ndomahina dilated that, He is working in accordance with the dreams of President Bio and given that the President has prioritized Agriculture and made it as a flagship project, “my eyes are widely opened in search of Investors and developmental projects to bring to my country” he said. He expressed his heartfelt thanks and appreciations to God Almighty and to the Minister of Agriculture for making the signing of the MOU a reality.
Speaking on behalf of his organization, the Director of Zhonghui Tuifu International, Pan Teng reiterated that, he is excited with the data and experience displayed by the management and staff of MAF which speaks volumes that Sierra Leone has enormous Agricultural potentials and that the Ministry of Agriculture is also ready to deliver. “This has spurred me and my organization to bring in more innovative ideas into the Country.
