PRESS RELEASE

APPA adopts a new constitution to guide its work to promote electoral democracy and economic prosperity in Sierra Leone.

Wednesday, 26th September, 2018: In a bid to self-regulate its activities and to provide a platform for consensus building and harmonization of common positions on key national issues, and desirous of adopting a united front in dialoguing with the Executive, Parliament, and the Judicial arms of Government, the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), the National Electoral Commission (NEC) and other Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs), National and International Organizations (INGOs), civil society and the people of Sierra Leone, Political Parties have today, at a signing ceremony organized at the National Secretariat of the Unity Party (UP), adopted a new constitution to operate under an umbrella organization called the All Political Parties Association ( APPA).

In his statement, the Chairman of the signing ceremony, Dr. Dennis Bright, expressed that the strategic vision of a reformed APPA is for political parties to “ collectively uphold and sustain democratic norms and values as foundations for prosperity of Sierra Leone”.

The signing ceremony also recognized that APPA will “serve as a platform for dialogue, cooperation, and collaboration among the leadership of political parties for the advancement of electoral democracy and economic prosperity of Sierra Leone’, said chairperson of the ceremony.

Expressing similar sentiments, other chairpersons of other political parties expressed that a reformed APPA “is about promoting the principles of good governance, centered on national peace and security as well as demonstrating the true spirit of national unity and solidarity”.

Other senior members of political parties present at the ceremony were unanimous in asserting that the coming together of all political parties in Sierra Leone is the way forward to unify and effect meaningful change in the lives of the people of Sierra Leone at all fronts.

The signing ceremony was attended by fourteen (14) political parties, witnessed and endorsed by staff of the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC).
